2017

The 2017 pysanka poster (above) is darker than in was in some previous years, because I made a lot of my pysanky with a black background.  We had decided to try a pysanka sale to raise money for our UCARE summer camp; since I was not able to get pysanky in time from Ukraine, I decided to write extra ones and sell those.  Black dye gives a reliably nicer, more even background, so I chose that over the more finicky dark red.  And I wrote many more of the simpler designs, since intricate pysanky are not cost effective when selling.

A few of the pysanky are repeats from previous years–they are patterns that were popular with friends and family, so I wrote them again.  Four of the pysanky were one of a kind–I wrote them to see how they’d turn out (it can be hard to tell sometimes, when copying old designs from old photos), and then chose not to make any more of them this year. One egg is from the UGS postcard they sent out this spring; the rest are from Manko and Elyjiw.
