Pysanka Exhibit

Cherkasy/Черкашина

From the guide:  The pysanky in this group are from the Cherkasy region, Taras Shevchenko’s homeland in the heart of Ukraine, on the shores of the Dnipro River. These designs are taken from a book by Mytsyk and Fusyn, and range from very simple two-color eggs to intricate multi-colored eggs.  The motifs of choice include ruzhi (eight-pointed stars) and numerous plant motifs.  Unusually, there is quite a bit of blue used in some parts of the Cherkasy region. They are an interesting bunch, with wild color schemes and designs, and could be mistaken for modern art, instead of the ancient designs they actually are.

(Additional pysanky from Cherkasy can be seen in Case #2.)

Can you find examples of ruzhi and plant motifs?  Of interesting abstracted shapes and odd color progressions?  Look for unusual colors, like blue.

The pysanky in this case were written by me, Luba Petrusha.
