She was born in the village of Dubliany, Sambir raion, Lviv oblast. Mariya graduated from the Ivan Trusha School of Applied Arts in Lviv, specializing in "art embroidery".
She currently teaches art. Besides pysanky, her creativity extends to motanky, pavuky, vytynanky, painting, graphic arts, printing fabric, poetry, and photography. She has been active in bringing back the tradition of the Christmas pavuk (handing straw mobile).
Mariya is a member of the Lemkivshchyna Research Foundation, and helps organize the annual Lemko Pysanka Festival in Lviv.
When Vira Manko was putting together her book on Ukrainian Folk Pysanky, she turned to Mariya to provide examples of Lemko pysanky.
Mariya currently lives and works in Lviv. The pysanky below are those she wrote in 2018, and which were purchased from her by UCARE (Ukrainian Children’s Aid and Relief Effort, Inc.) for fundraising purposes.
