Modern pysanka designs, unlike traditional ones, are meant to be modified and played with.  They are works of art, and changes and improvements are part of the creative process.

One of my favorite designs is a simple one (once you figure out how to place the elements evenly).  I have gone back to this pattern from the Surma-II series many times over the years. It’s a simple pattern, so most changes have mostly to do with the background color and petal colors, but there are also differences in spacing, and, in one case, the shape of the petal.
