Blue pysanky are a recent addition to the Hutsul pysankar’s palette, and do not come from the Ukrainian tradition of pysankarstvo. Some are purely blue and white (using light and dark blues); others have a black final color.
On this page are several pysanky I purchased in Kolomyia over the years. I suspect the designs are copies of Romanian originals. The motifs are largely non-Ukrainian, although some of the individual components (bezkonechnyk waves) could be found on Ukrainian eggs. As I am not an expert on Romanian eggs, I am not sure if they are pure copies or hybrids.
