I have been a member of the “Eggs-Pysanky” Yahoo group for many years now, and recently became a moderator as well.  The members of the groups share pysanka making tips, answer queries from fellow pysankary, and post photos of their work.

I searched the archives to com up with dye recipes, and this is what I found there:

From Tym, who’s been experimenting with dyes for many years:

Here are "dye recipes" from my old secrets.  All dye packs are from from Luba's Ukrainian Gift Shop (UGS) unless otherwise noted:

Black, two dyes packs, one tablespoon of white vinegar and one cup of boiled distilled water. This made so strong blacky for final color. I love that.

Scarlet, two dyes packs, one tablespoon of white vinegar and one cup of boiled distilled water.

Red, two dyes packs, one tablespoon of white vinegar and one cup of boiled distilled water.

Dark Red, 2 dyes packs, one tablespoon of white vinegar and one cup of boiled distilled water.

Royal Blue, 2 dyes packs, one tablespoon of white vinegar and one cup of boiled  distilled water.

Royal Blue, 1 dye pack and Blue, 1 dye pack, one tablespoon of white vinegar and one cup of boiled distilled water.

Dark Red, 1 dye pack from Pysanky Showcase and Red, one dye pack from Luba's (UGS). one tablespoon of white vinegar and 1 1/2 cup of boiled distilled water.

*Be sure stirred it slow in less five minutes, it will break color into strong 'tone'

dark red color.

From Lorraine, a recipe for peach dye:

In the past, I have done a ratio of about 2-3 tablespoons of yellow to one tablespoon of pumpkin diluted in water to get a nice peach color. I had to play with the amount of yellow a bit to get it right though.

From Dave, a recipe (of sorts) for a nice maroon:

I like to mix red and purple to get a maroon. I don't know now how much I used

of each color though.
