The cards on this pages are all newer UGS cards, probably from the late 70s or 80s.  Many have been trimmed (by me, to my regret) to get rid to “extraneous” material and distractions, so they would fit better in my photo album.

Gone are the simple, utilitarian 2 x 3 layouts of the older cards; instead, the eggs are posed individually, with multiple views given, or are perched dramatically on egg stands with moody lighting.  There are more dramatic backgrounds, and sometimes reflections.

Although they are pretty, I must say that, as a poor student, I preferred the older style of card, because I’d get SIX eggs for my 50 cents, instead of only one or two.  Still, the “nightingale egg” (with the little yellow birds) was one of my favorites.

Series 5 was a step forward in pysanka photography, as there were two shots taken of each pysanka, allowing the dividing band (or other dividing elements) to be seen quite clearly.  All the pysanky in this series were of the lateral division type, and it would have been very difficult to re-create them without this additional photo.

These cards are from UGS series 4 and 5; all the identifying (and other) information below is from the ArtUkraine site, as I cut away much of it on mine, and glued the cards into an album.  They were quite useful to me as a pysankarka in this format, but a true postcard collector would shudder and cringe at the mere thought!
