A
acetic acid: an organic acid, systematically called ethnoic acid (CH3COOH). In dilute form it is known as vinegar, and is often used to acidify aniline/acid dyes.
albumen: egg white.
alum: any of various double sulfates of a trivalent metal such as aluminum, chromium, or iron and a univalent metal such as potassium or sodium, especially hydrous aluminum potassium sulfate, AlK(SO4)2·12H2O. Alums are often used as mordants with natural dyes.
aniline dyes: a family of acid dyes which can be created from the precursor chemical aniline; they do not contain aniline as such. These chemical dyes are useful for coloring silks, wools and other proteinaceous fabrics. They are used in modern pysankarstvo for dyeing eggs.
Araucana: a South American chicken breed that lays light blue, green and pink eggs.
