Lemko: from Lemkivshchyna, an ethnographic region in the Carpathian highlands. This area now lies within Ukraine, Slovakia and Poland.  The plural is either Lemky (traditional Ukrainian) or Lemkos.

The Lemky are one of the three highlander peoples of Ukraine; most of those in Poland were forcibly resettled after WWII, and scattered throughout modern day Ukraine and northwest Germany.  Lemkos are sometimes called “Rusyns,” particularly in the North American diaspora.

Their pysanky are distinct, usually being written with the drop-pull technique, as in the pysanka on the right.

lystovka (листовка): Pace egg.  A decorative egg made by attaching leaves or flowers to an egg, and then dyeing it. Pronounced “lis-TOV-kah,” all short vowels.  Plural is lystovky.
