T
talisman: an object held to act as a charm to avert evil and bring good fortune.
tjanting: a Javanese instrument for applying hot wax in batik work, usually consisting of a small thin copper cut with one or more capillary spouts, and a handle of reed or bamboo.
Transcarpathia: the Ukrainian ethnographic region located in the western foothills of the Carpathian mountains. Also called Zakarpattya.
travlenka (травленка): a decorated egg produced by etching the egg shell. Pronounced “TRAV-len-kah,” all short vowels. The plural is travlenky. Traditional Ukrainian white pysanky аre travlenky.
tripod: ancient pysanka symbol, a sun symbol. Also called a “trihorn” or “triquetrum.”
troyanda (троянда): Ukrainian word for a rose.
trylyst (трилист): a three-leaved motif
Trypillian Culture (Трипільська культура): a Neolithic–Eneolithic archaeological culture which existed from approximately 5500-2750 BC, from the Carpathian Mountains to the Dnister and Dnipro regions in modern-day Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine. The characteristic pottery has inspired the creation of so-called Trypillian pysanky.
Trypillian Pysanky (Трипільські писанки): modern, non-traditional pysanky which began to be written in the Ukrainian diaspora in the late 20th century. They utilize the curvilinear designs and characteristic colors (black, white and terra cotta) of ancient Trypillian pottery.
