Boiko Pysanky
Бойківські писанки

Тhe pysanky on this page are designs collected by Vira Manko and published in her 2008 book «Українська Народня писанка» (“The Ukrainian Folk Pysanka”).  I have recreated them based on her photos. Vira collected her designs form many sources, but most of her pysanka designs come from line drawings in ethnographic books and articles.  Often the color scheme was not indicated.

I have tried to stick to the color choices Vira made as much as possible; sometimes, thought, when the shell would not take the dye properly, I have made the pysanky black instead, as in several below. I have indicated the colors she used in the comments.

Vira has explained that Boiko pysanky tend to have a limited number of colors–many are just white lines on a colored shell.  Often there will be two colors, with a white + yellow + background color scheme.
