Eggs need to be cleaned before they are ready to be written on.  Ivory dish soap is gentle, but cleans well.  Add a bit of this to lukewarm water, put your eggs in to soak, and the scrub them with a Scotch-Brite pad.  This will remove all sorts of grime, including chicken sh..........errrr, excrement. Then a quick rinse with clean water, and set them on a towel to dry.

Easy peasy!
