Stari Kuty

Старі Кути

Stari Kuty, located in Kosiv raion, near the Cheremosh River is another ancient Hutsul village; first mentions in the written literature date to 1448.  It is a center of Hutsul handcrafts, including pysankarstvo.

The pysanky below were photographed at the Museum of the Pysanka between 2005-2014, under a variety of light conditions and with changes in position. They were written by Olena M. Huliy (b. 1928).  The pysanky are quite characteristic of this village, with the large white complex Hutsul crosses and much resheto, as well as large red “slezy.”

Two of the pysanky have second photos to help appreciate the entire design.
