Utoropy

Уторопи

Utoropy, located in Kosiv raion, is an ancient Hutsul village, and was the first to be mentions in written chronicles (1367). It is located within the Hutsul National Nature Park. The village is located in an oak forest, and is known for a natural mineral spring in the center of town, used for centuries to produce salt.

The pysanky below were photographed at the Museum of the Pysanka, and were written by Yustyna P. Komyshuk (b. 1920).  The first set was written in 1985. They are characterized by bright splashes of pink/red and blue, floral motifs, and many small dots on the background. Note that the pysankarka often writes the same basic design with different color schemes.

Several of the pysanky have a second photo to help appreciate the entire design.
