Pelahia Lytvynova-Bartosh was born in the village of Tereben (Terebenka, Terebeni) near the village of Zemlyanka, Hlukhiv povit, Chernihiv hubernia. She worked in various fields, including advocating for women and children and pedagogy.
Throughout her life Lytvynova-Bartosh collected samples of folk ornaments, drew patterns of embroidery, weaving, drawings on tiles, ceramics, wood, pysanky, rushnyks, etc. The result of fruitful research work was the first volume of "South-Russian folk ornament", published in 1878. The collection includes 20 tables with samples of ornaments for embroidery, weaving and pysankarstvo, collected in Hlukhiv district of Chernihiv province.
Additionally, Tatiana Borzykh found in the archives of Pelahia Lytvynova-Bartosh a set of illustrations sketched by her of pysanky of this general region (then Chernihiv hubernia).
